A librarian for the books we already own

Kirsten reads across paper, Kindle and Audible, and no app knew all three. So we built BookKind: one shelf for every format, and a Librarian that suggests the next read from the books we already own.

The BookKind Currently reading screen: Cell by Stephen King on Kindle, page 200 of 460 at 43%, with a Finished button and a Let's chat about Cell button. The BookKind Librarian. Asked to pick the next read, it suggests The Hobbit on Audible, Carrie on paper and Audible, or The Diamond Eye, all from the shelf, and offers to start one.

What it does today

  • Physical, Kindle and Audible books on one shelf. Add one by searching or by photographing the cover.
  • A Librarian who answers from our own library, favourite authors and five-star reads, and never suggests something she's finished.
  • A Book Club chat for each book on the go. It knows how far she is and keeps the spoilers to itself.
  • A wishlist in the order she wants to buy, and a reading journey with goals.

What isn't there yet

BookKind runs on a small server in our house and signs in with our home accounts. Before anyone else can use it, it needs a proper sign-in and an iPhone app. We'll write a note when each of those lands.
